Chapel Ash # 9


Stray not beneath that petrous gaze, 
lest they spring from lofty perch, bring 
wretched sinful souls to dwell eternal, 
high atop this church.

  1. Four grotesques or gargoyles sit around the steeple of St Mark's church (which is now used as business premises)looking for all the world as if they are about to pounce. Strictly speaking if they are waterspouts they are called gargoyles, if not the correct term is grotesques.
